It’s a Tater Trot!

img_0287On November 5th runners and walkers arose to a crisp and sunny Saturday morning; a perfect day for the annual “Tater Trot”.  The event is held each November to help earn money for the Christmas food boxes sponsored by the Community Dinner Table.  This year saw a great turnout for the race and $2,000 was donated to CDT.  The food boxes are prepared the week before Christmas and provide a holiday meal for hundreds of families within the community.

The Tater Trot takes place at Jensens Grove in Blackfoot and is under the direction of Jon Lysett who has organized the race since its inception.  The event includes 5K and 10K walks, 5K and 10K runs, and a half-mile run for the kids.  Other than the children’s fun run, each race is professionally timed and shirts and other prizes are given to participants.  Volunteers from CDT helped with the event and provided hot baked potatoes with chili, fruit, and drinks to all the runners.

Thanks goes to the Lyksetts, the volunteers, and all the participants.  This race has historically been held on beautiful fall days, so if you would like to participate in either the walks or the runs, dust off those running shoes and mark your calendar.  See you all next year!
