feeding the hungry in Bingham County

From weekly food distribution to Tuesday meals from November to March

Together We Can Reduce Hunger In Bingham County

Community Dinner Table’s calling is to ride out economic turmoil by offering a hot meal every Tuesday night from the first week in November to the last week in March at Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church. We are an organization comprised of 22 different faith and “friend” organizations in Bingham County. The goal of CDT is to feed individuals and families who are having problems putting food on their tables.

Addressing a vital part of the Community Dinner Table mission, the Food Pantry feeds the hungry in Blackfoot and Bingham County. The Pantry provides weekly distribution of foods in association with the Idaho Food Bank.

Food distribution through the Pantry

It is our goal at Community Dinner Table, Inc. to provide food resources for families and individuals who are struggling with putting food on the dinner table. That’s why we partnered with the Idaho Food Bank to provide a weekly food pantry in Blackfoot. It is incredible to think that the Blackfoot Community Pantry distributes more than 300,000 pounds of food from its
Blackfoot location, 245 W. Sexton St. in Blackfoot, Idaho.

Weekly dinners through Community dinner table

The “Dinners” have become the backbone of CDT’s operation, and led to the numerous community services CDT now manages. To greet more than 6,500 people through 23 weeks for more than 10 years is a real consistent way to help Blackfoot and Bingham County serve its citizens in need. CDT has found that need is difficult to define. Some come hungry for nutrition – others for interaction, and some for fun. Winter is simply a needy time, and the CDT Tuesday Dinners fill that community need without federal or state funding.

United For A Cause, Driven by Compassion

Two neighbors, Ron Thompson and Lee Hammett, asked, “What can we do to help our community?” They came up with the idea of a weekly dinner from the first week in November to the last week in March to feed the hungry, and their faith groups made it a reality. With support from other faith and civic organizations, 22 groups have now contributed to this ongoing effort.

Donate Your help to the community

It is only through the help of people like you that we are able to help so many of the hungry in our community! There are many ways you can help:

It takes a large number of people to make both the community pantry and weekly dinners run smoothly to help our community.

When you donate money, we are often able to leverage that money to purchase items at a discount.

Donate food

Food donations throughout the year are important to help us meet the needs for food distribution boxes and weekly dinners in our community.

Lifelong Learning for a Stronger community

While CDT is there to help our friends and neighbors in times of need, our real goal is to help people learn how to take care of themselves.  The dinners provide a meal each week, but they also provide a chance for recipients to join a group and help prepare that meal, serve, or clean up.
