CDT and City Partner on Community Garden

IMG_3843

Mayor Paul Loomis and Community Dinner Table (CDT) board members are pleased to announce a new partnership between the City of Blackfoot and CDT to support and enhance the Blackfoot Community Garden.  This recognizes both organizations desire to support the community and help people learn to be more self reliant, have better health and just enjoy being out-of-doors.

Beginning this season all signups for garden plots will be managed out of the city offices. City crews will also maintain and landscape the ground around the garden as an extension of the bordering park and will help with weed control.  The city will also continue to provide water as they have done in the past.  Fees from the leased plots will go to the city to cover the costs of water and exterior maintenance.  CDT will continue to enhance the garden inside the fence and will provide classes to help patrons learn how to garden and use food more effectively.  Garden classes are being offered throughout the month of March.  Guidelines for those interested in plots are available on the CDT website and from the city offices.  Sign-up for plots is available to incumbent gardeners from March 16th  to March 31st.  Beginning April 1st  all remaining plots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
