Runners Brave the Tater Trot!
On a blustery November morning runners and walkers of all ages braved the weather to support the 7th annual “Tater Trot”. This event, started by Jon and Marlene Lyksett (see link here to 2013 race) has generated thousands of dollars over the years for helping the hungry in Blackfoot and Bingham County. This year was the final year for the Lyksetts as they now hand over the leadership to Christian Utley, one of the CDT board directors. A big thank you was given to the Lyksetts during the awards ceremony for their tremendous efforts running both the Tator Trot and the Tommy Vaughn’s Marathon and More, held in the spring. This year a check for $2,275 was presented to the CDT board to support the Christmas Food Boxes that are handed out to the needy each December.
The crisp and sunny weather typical of the race was replaced this year with rain and snow. Still, everyone had a great time and hot baked potatoes with all the fixings were given to all the participants. This event included a 5K and 10K walk, a 5k and 10K run, and a kids half-mile run. Recognition was given to the top three finishers in each event.
